Powerful Insights into Genesis: There's no place like home!

Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

As we look into the book of Genesis it is my prayer that God may continue to speak to us revealing things that will draw us closer to Him every passing minute that we may be fashioned into glorious likeness of Jesus Christ our Savior. I am so excited about this simply because this is an answer to a prayer that I’ve been praying for so many years.

The writer of Genesis shows some contrasts in the first few chapters like celestial and terrestrial, light and darkness, evening and morning, day and night, work and rest, man and woman, tree of life and tree of death, life and death etc. Interestingly, the word ‘Heaven’ is derived from the hebrew word ‘Ouranos’ the root of which means ‘to cover’.  It was in the heart of God to prepare a final resting place for all those who were covered by the blood of His son Jesus Christ. According to Strong’s, although the idea of elevation and extension meaning the abode of God exists it also has latent within itself an implied meaning of joy, power, eternity.
Studying the Bible we understand that:

  1. Heaven was not created to accommodate God. Jesus fills all things yet Hebrews 7:26 reveals that He is high above the heavens.
  2. It is probably for intermittent visitations by saints (As Paul mentions in 2 Corinthians 12:1-4)
  3. It is the final abode of man as mentioned in John 14:1-3 where Jesus said,”I’ll come back to take you, for where I am there you will be too”

As we go deeper into its meaning we understand that Heaven (meaning ‘to cover’) will become the final abode of all those who are covered by the blood of Jesus. It simply pictures a place where all the covered ones dwell with joy in their hearts, experiencing the power in its fullness for all eternity. Coming from India I understand how important this is for someone like me. There are 300 million gods and goddesses worshipped by over 900 million HIndus who have absolutely no clue about going to heaven. It seems like their gods left that part to the Indians to figure out for themselves. When I think of that, I find myself so privileged for being a child of God possessing the assurance of salvation. We who are justified can most assuredly look forward to that day when we will be glorified and will be able to share the glory of Jesus Christ, in the very heaven that He has prepared for us. Amen
